On our way to home see my family at home in Bondo, we stopped at Naivasha to spend time with my sister and her family.
Naivasha is a charming town and among the top 5 destinations in Kenya and is a 2 hour drive from the capital, Nairobi. Naivasha was the British’s mispronunciation and misspelling of the original Maasai word Nai’posha, which means ‘big moving water’. The town sits alongside the sparkling waters of Lake Naivasha, the only fresh water lake in the Kenyan Rift, which make it to attract many thirsty wild animals. The lake has many hippos, both inshore and onshore hiding in the reeds. I recommend the presence of a guide in case you plan to make a boat ride in the lake.
It is also the home of zebras, and you will certainly come across a group of these elegant animals walking leisurely across the streets or in the neighbourhood of your hotel.
Naivasha's lush vegetation is home to a thriving population of cheeky monkeys. These curious animals are experts at snatching snacks and personal belongings, so be alert, or you might find yourself in a tug-of-war with them.
We were lucky to see giraffes strolling and snacking close to the lake. I can never get enough of these tall and elegant animals.
There are several lodges, camping grounds and hiking trails around the lake to be closer to nature. My short stay in Naivasha immersed me in nature's beauty, where the intricate patterns I observed echoed the vibrant tribal prints of indigenous cultures, inspiring a deeper appreciation for both. We will definitely come back.
